Second Generation Timber Harvest

Twenty years ago, when woodland work in our family was still managed by the last generation, we logged 100 acres of woodland. Last year, the owner wanted more trees down, looked up the Reiff name, and contacted us. We are currently enjoying seeing how the trees grew after the cut 20 years ago, and we are harvesting the trees we left there to grow larger. When we get to a tree that is large enough to cut but has not yet reached its full potential, we say, “We’ll leave that one for the next generation,” and we let it stand to preserve the beauty of the forest and to allow it to drop its seeds – an investment for a generation not yet born.
